I started my career in ICP-MS in 1991 in Winsford, England, the manufacturing home of the VG ICP-MS. I was employed as an installation engineer until 1993 when I moved to California. There, I was employed by Fisons and was responsible for all instrument service in the Northwest of the USA. In 1997 I moved back to Massachusetts to become one of two tech support engineers responsible for the day-to-day running of the service department.
In April 2002 the ICP-MS service department was moved to Madison, WI. Deciding that Madison was not for me, I left Thermo and started Ionflight.
The knowledge and experience I have gained over the last 11 years has taught me that there is a big difference between just doing a job and doing a job well. I have always strived to make customer satisfaction my number one priority, and I feel that I can further improve on that, now that I am independent.
My beginnings in ICPMS began over 35 years ago when as a 17 year-old I was hired as an apprentice wireman at VG Elemental in Winsford, Cheshire, England. From there I progressed from the assembly floor where I started on the PlasmaQuad 2 up to Test and Installation of the PlasmaQuad 3 and PQ ExCell.
In 1998 I was given the opportunity to move to Seattle, WA in the Pacific Northwest where I took on the role of ICP-MS Field Service Engineer. A few years later I moved to Frankin, MA where I began life as an ICP-MS Technical Support Engineer. From there I stepped up the ladder to Service Manager where I held the positions for Thermo IOMS (Inorganic Mass Spec) and Northeast Elemental. I eventually returned to the Field as Lead Technical Specialist for Q-ICP-MS working on X-Series and ICAP-Q.
In 2013 I was offered and accepted a position at Ionflight where our single goal was to deliver and support Thermo Q-ICP-MS to higher quality level than that of the OEM without OEM Prices
I live in a small town in Southeastern Massachusetts with my Wife and Children. I like to golf, run and watch Liverpool/Celtic win and on occasion lose.
With over 30 years of experience in ICP-MS instrumentation, Seth Revilla brings deep technical expertise and a customer first mindset to his role as a service engineer at Ionflight. Before joining Ionflight in 2003, Seth spent over a decade at Thermo Scientific and built a strong foundation in both environmental and industrial applications of mass spectrometry.
Seth holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry as well as a second B.S. in Electrical Engineering, a combination that has proven essential in diagnosing and resolving complex instrument issues. His early career in an environmental lab helped him understand the pressures scientists face, which is why he’s always focused on fast turnaround, clear communication, and thorough problem-solving that not only fixes the immediate issue but prevents future ones.
In addition to supporting ICP-MS systems, Seth also services the magnetic sector glow discharge mass spectrometer (GDMS) from NU Instruments. Longtime customers value his reliability, technical knowledge, and practical approach. When Seth is onsite, he’s more than a service engineer, he’s a trusted partner dedicated to getting production back online or research moving forward.
Seth lives with his wife and daughter in California and represents Ionflight on the west coast.
I joined Ionflight in 2023 as Director of Operations, bringing experience in operations management, finance, and organizational leadership, but very limited knowledge of ICP-MS instruments and processes. It did not take long for me to become fascinated by the technology and the critical work these instruments perform in environmental, industrial, academic, and government laboratories. I was equally excited to join a team of engineers capable of diagnosing and solving incredibly complex technical challenges, and to partner with them in bringing the Ionflight standard to our customers.

Originally from the West Coast, I moved to the East Coast ten years ago and quickly fell in love with the history, culture, and character of Massachusetts. Outside of work, I enjoy spending as much time outdoors as possible with my four children and our dog, Olive. Not remotely aware of any sports teams or stats, but a Red Sox fan for life because...Boston.
Steve Shen joined Ionflight in 2025. Previously, he worked as an analytical chemist for 9 years in environmental and nuclear isotope applications at a national lab. He has extensive experience in method development on Multi Collector TIMS and ICP-MS and has also supported TOF and noble gas instrumentation.
As a service engineer, Steve primarily covers the west coast. He mostly works on Nu Instruments plasma instruments (Attom, NPHR, NPII, P3, PD, Sapphire) and is particularly excited about helping customers with applications issues that draw on his background and experience.
Outside of work, Steve enjoys lazing in his garden with his four cats. He also backpacks, skis, rock climbs and loves other activities of the great outdoors (while trying to thread the needle of maintaining cell service on weekdays). He is based in eastern Washington.
I would like to introduce myself as the newest Field Service Engineer at IonFlight. Bringing a robust background in the technical maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of ICP-MS systems, I am incredibly excited to offer my experience and problem-solving mindset to the IonFlight team.
I spent eight years as a Field Service Engineer with PerkinElmer. In this role, I helped customers enhance the productivity of their laboratory processes and drove high levels of customer satisfaction by performing maintenance, repair, and validation of spectroscopy instrumentation, including AA, ICP, ICP-MS, and ProTOF systems.
Most recently, I spent 18 years at Thermo Fisher Scientific. After being hired by John Morrison, I served as a Senior Service Engineer for five years before transitioning into the role of ICP-MS Product Specialist for over 13 years. I am fully trained on all current Thermo Fisher Scientific Trace Elemental Analysis (TEA) instruments, including AAS, ICP-OES, and ICP-MS (iCAPQ, iCAPRQ, iCAPRQ+ and iCAPTQ.
Outside of my professional life, I am a major advocate for staying active and exploring the outdoors. You can usually find me hiking challenging trails, navigating on the water, or spending time tracking local wildlife and nature. I bring that same sense of curiosity, focus, and dedication to my technical work every single day.
